Erebia calcaria, (Lorkovic's Brassy Ringlet), from the Julian Alps which straddle the borders of Austria, Italy and Slovenia. This species is mid-sized member of their genus, Erebia, with a length of 17-22 mm. They have black eyespots on their forewings. The largest eyespots are placed, two on each side, near the wingtip, and have a white dot in the centre; they are surrounded by a copper-colour patch that is lighter than the blackish-brown upper wings. This species has found it easy to adapt to arid and especially cold conditions like high-altitude lands, forest clearings or high latitude and tundra.
